Mule Deer in Cave Creek!

I spotted these mule deer right on the outskirts of Old Town Cave Creek!! Mule deer migrate to lower elevations during the winter months, so now is the prime time to see them in our area!

A Doe Stops By Tonight For Water and a Snack

I had just finished day 9 of the 21 day meditation challenge from Oprah and Deepak when I spotted the doe through the living room window.  The meditation tonight was a good one.  I learned that the Sanskrit mantra “Yum” is associated with the heart chakra.

I took the photos through the kitchen window.  She was alert but we had the good fortune of no interruptions, so our visit lasted a while and I considered it a blessing on many levels.

Very soon, I will be an empty-nester when our youngest heads off to college.  I am taking each day as it comes.

Day 1: “Om”

Day 7:  “So Hum” (I am)

Day 9:  “Yum”

As far as the meditation challenge is concerned, technically speaking, today, I should have been on Day 11 but hey, this is Cave Creek and I give myself permission to move at my own pace.

The Antlers Are Growing

Here’s a photo of the deer that frequents our water fountain in the backyard.  It’s been great watching them come and drink nightly.

The antlers still seem fuzzy but they are growing.

Who can resist water and compost?

Finally, I got to see the deer drinking from the water fountain at dusk yesterday.  There were two, young ones by the look of it.  I did not dare open the door to get a closer look and better closeups so I shot the deer photos from inside the house.  I realized how dirty the windows are after that dust storm / monsoon we just had.

Then this morning, the javelina was trying to figure out how to get at the stinky compost heap inside my garden while I was trying to figure out how to keep the dog from getting outside.  The last time they met at the top of the driveway, the dog lost but that’s a story for another time.
